Here’s What You Voted the Best Weekend Whipper of the Year
If you’re celebrating early January being rained (or snowed) out from your climbing session, just know that it could be worse: you could be skidding down a long, runout slab climb, seconds away from decking.
In December, we pulled 10 of the craziest Weekend Whippers from 2025 and asked Climbing readers to vote on their favorite.
The winner, with 29.4% of the votes, was a first-person POV video by Vincent Krause, a German mountaineer who slipped on pitch one of Schweiz Plasir, a 13-pitch route at Switzerland’s Grimsel Pass, in August. Krause falls more than 30 feet, skidding and scraping his legs, before he grabs a quickdraw to stop himself from falling another 30 feet.
The move was bold—he could have de-gloved his finger—but Krause survived with only skin ripped from his right hand. He followed his partner up the remaining 12 pitches.
Watch the Whipper below, then read more about Krause’s epic fall.
