Nick Reiner’s Defense Attorney Makes Surprising Decision

One of the highest profile defendants in all of America may need to find a new attorney after his previous representation chose to walk away from the case.

Nick Reiner's defense attorney Alan Jackson reportedly withdrew from the case, but he does maintain belief that his former client did not murder his parents Rob and Michele Singer Reiner.

Jackson met with a judge on Wednesday and made the decision to step away, adding that “we feel we have no choice” in their defense effort. According to the New York Times, the Reiner family believes that the legal process is to be trusted, and will not comment on Jackson's decision to withdraw.

Jackson No Longer Defending Reiner in Court

Reiner did not enter a plea on Wednesday in court, but spoke once to say that he agreed with the move to delay his arraignment after his change in representation. That arraignment has now been moved to February 23, and Reiner is set to be represented by a public defender from the Los Angeles County office.

Jackson, who is stepping away from the case for reasons he did not disclose, said that “Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder."

The attorney also represented Karen Read in her highly publicized Massachusetts murder trial, and said on Wednesday that "the legal process will reveal the true facts of the circumstances surrounding this case, Nick’s case."

Jackson also represented Harvey Weinstein in his trial in Los Angeles, proving that he is no stranger to high-profile cases.

Jackson's attorney bio boasts that "his client list reads like a who's who of Hollywood celebrities, NBA stars, billionaire CEOs, and foreign dignitaries — all turning to him for 'must-win' cases."

Nick Reiner's Charges and Arrest

Reiner was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after each of his parents were found dead on December 16. Reiner's two counts also include the special circumstance of multiple murders, meaning that he could face life in prison without a chance at parole, or the death penalty.

Nick Reiner was arrested hours after attending a holiday party at Conan O'Brien's home with his parents, and was detained roughly 15 minutes away from where their bodies were found.

According to the New York Times, Reiner's sister Romy found the bodies as she went to perform a wellness check at the home. The Reiners failed to respond to a massage therapist who arrived at their home, prompting the check that found them deceased.
