Recall Issued For 5 Types of Popular Healthy Snack
Certain foods are better options than others when it comes to snacking, but even healthy items can face product recalls if there's an issue.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a recall announced Tuesday by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Food and Standards Division. The announcement is for five types of hummus sold in two different states.
What to know about this recall
Carrot Top Country Kitchens LLC, DBA Carrot Top Kitchens of Bridgeport is the company that initiated the recall on five of its hummus products due to the undeclared presence of sesame, which can cause reactions, including potentially serious ones, in individuals who are allergic to it.
"Sesame was officially added as the 9th major food allergen in the U.S. by the FDA in 2021, following the enactment of the FASTER Act, with mandatory labeling required starting January 1, 2023, under the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA)," the FDA release says.
The five varieties of hummus are:
- Cherry Pepper Hummus
- Lemon Garlic Hummus
- Lime Ginger Hummus
- Sundried Tomato and Caper Hummus
- White Truffle Hummus
The Carrot Top Country hummus products listed above were distributed to the Rochambeau Farm Store in Bedford, New York and sold at various farmers markets in Connecticut.
