Tottenham’s Thomas Frank responds to Arsenal cup controversy with 126-word statement
Thomas Frank has addressed the Arsenal cup incident that drew attention before Tottenham Hotspur’s latest defeat at the hands of Bournemouth.
Tottenham Hotspur’s winless run in 2026 continued as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
That result marked the Cherries’ first win in their last twelve league games, while Tottenham remain without a single victory in their last three Premier League outings.
Thomas Frank remains a man under pressure, with Tottenham fans yet to be convinced by him, as the Lilywhites are currently camped in 14th place in the league table.
Thomas Frank explains that Arsenal cup incident
Ahead of the Bournemouth encounter, Frank did little to get himself on the side of Tottenham fans, who have been quick to voice their frustration this season, with boos during and after games.
The Dane was spotted drinking from an Arsenal cup before kick-off, a decision that raised eyebrows given that the Gunners are Tottenham’s fiercest rivals.
Speaking to Football.London, the Dane has now opened up on the incident and explained the reasoning behind it. He said: “I definitely not noticed it. I think it’s fair to say that we’re not winning every single football match so it would be absolutely, completely stupid of me to take a cup with Arsenal. Is there anyone thinking I’ve done that? All the staff has done it.
“They’ve been in the changing room, the game before us. It’s normal to take a cup, give me an espresso, I do that before every game. I think actually it’s a little bit sad in football that I need to be asked a question about that.
“I think we’re definitely going in the wrong direction if we need to worry about me having a cup with another logo of another club. Of course, I’ll never do that. That’s extremely stupid.”
Frank is not helping himself with his actions at Tottenham
Obviously, this was not done on purpose, but it’s hardly a good look for Thomas Frank or Tottenham right not. It only adds to growing fan sentiment that he is not the right fit for the club.
While being under pressure, it feels as though Frank doesn’t quite understand the optics of some of his decisions, not just on the pitch, but in press conferences too.
From complimenting Arsenal to pointing out that Tottenham are only in the Champions League because they won the Europa League, the former Brentford boss is hardly endearing himself to the fans.
