Draymond Green Makes Stance Clear On The Jaylen Brown MVP Conversation

Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown has been performing like an MVP this season. Somehow, Brown keeps getting undervalued by the media and NBA universe, as he was recently snubbed for Eastern Conference Player of the Month despite having a superior December to Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, who took home the award.

But the tide of public opinion appears to be shifting towards accuracy when it comes to Jaylen. JB himself hasn’t been afraid to voice that he’s the game’s best two-way player, and now, we’re seeing plenty of NBA players coming out and praising Brown’s play on various podcasts and platforms.

Jeff Teague recently said that he’d take Brown over Luka Dončić. Celtics legend Paul Pierce said that Brown should be the No. 2 MVP candidate behind only Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Ex-NBA wing Nick Young said that Brown is indeed the game’s best two-way player, pointing out that Brown’s durability is superior to guys like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Victor Wembanyama.

Now, Golden State Warriors big man Draymond Green has joined the conversation. Draymond recently used his The Draymond Green Show platform to praise JB and push back against narratives undervaluing Brown.

Green said that he understood why Brown announced himself as the best two-way player in the NBA, but that Brown might even have an argument for being the best player in the NBA right now, period.

“That’s the kind of basketball Jaylen Brown has been playing,” Green said. “He’s been up there right at the top of the NBA. I’m not sure how he hasn’t moved into the top 3 in MVP (conversations) … we knew the East was wide open, but I don’t think anyone foreshadowed that the Boston Celtics would be playing this well.”

Through 33 games played, Jaylen is averaging 29.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game, shooting 50.1 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from 3, and 77.7 percent from the free-throw line while logging 33.9 minutes nightly.

Despite preseason expectations of a gap year (as mentioned by Green), Brown has propelled the Celtics to a 23-12 record.
