Hyde Amendment Has Saved 2.6 Million Babies From Abortions, Congress Must Keep It
Since 1976, the Hyde Amendment has protected your tax dollars from funding abortion.
But the amendment named for pro-life warrior Rep. Henry Hyde (whom I knew personally) could be in jeopardy as the House works to come to an agreement on Obamacare subsidies before another government shutdown wreaks havoc on our nation.
As our friend Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life, has said, the Hyde protections “must not be weakened, sidelined, or quietly erased through back-door funding schemes.”
The Hyde Amendment is supported by a majority of American voters and in the past – before Democrats became the party of Big Abortion – there was bipartisan support in Congress as well.
Most importantly, Hyde is credited with saving the lives of 2.6 million babies.

Democrats want to do away with Hyde, while Republicans want to expand Hyde protections to also prohibit marketplace insurance plans purchased as part of the Affordable Care Act – better known as Obamacare – from covering abortions, so long as they are funded by state or private dollars.
Allowing taxpayer-supported insurance plans to cover abortion is just another way to make Americans fund a procedure that half our nation recognizes as murder.
Republicans have to stand strong here as they work with Democrats on a deal to extend Obamacare subsidies that help millions of Americans afford health insurance. No taxpayer funding of abortion! Protect and expand Hyde! This is what we must demand.
Priests for Life signed on to a letter with 100 other pro-life groups to tell Congress in October that Hyde was not negotiable. That is still true.
I need your help to make sure Congress gets the message. With a vote expected anytime now in the House, may I count on you to call your Republican representative and deliver a message of unequivocal support for Hyde?
When you click this link, you’ll be taken to a page where you can signal your intention to call your House member to urge them to stand strong on Hyde.
The babies are counting on us!
As always, my heartfelt thanks for your willingness to help this life-saving effort.
