Pro-Life Voters to President Trump: No Compromise on Hyde
Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins made the following statement, in light of President Trump’s comments earlier today to the GOP to be “flexible” about allowing for abortions to be covered in taxpayer subsidized plans. The legal protection known as the Hyde Amendment limits taxpayer funding of abortion to cases of rape and incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger.
Hawkins said: “Any healthcare plan that prioritizes a ‘deal’ over saving lives – in and out of the womb – deserves to die, not children. Republicans need to fix what the Democrats profoundly broke. Former President Barack Obama destroyed the American healthcare system with Obamacare, driving up costs and pushing life-ending policies with taxpayer funds.
The GOP must work not for any deal, but for the right deal, one that cares for the least of these. Pro-Life voters will not stay loyal if the GOP cannot fix healthcare without destroying lives with abortion. It’s been proven that since 1976, the Hyde Amendment has saved two million children from abortion. Hyde saves lives, and we will fight to save Hyde.”

SFLAction will score votes related to adding Hyde protections to Obamacare, also sometimes called the Affordable Care Act.
Hawkins continued: “Mr. President, Please don’t fall into the trap that Barack Obama set when he manipulated the process to prevent Hyde protections. The ‘Affordable Care Act’ is NOT affordable, does not care about patients in the womb, and acts like a bludgeon against healthcare not run by bloated bureaucracy. The stakes are truly life and death.”
