Darren Fletcher poised to unleash £25m Man Utd star on the right wing vs Burnley - view
Manchester United take on Burnley at Turf Moor in Wednesday’s Premier League clash.
Ahead of the game, the club have confirmed that Darren Fletcher will take temporary charge after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal from the head coach position.
Fletcher has generally gone with a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system while coaching the Under-18s, and we anticipate a similar formation against the Clarets.
With Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo still on international duty, Fletcher could unleash Patrick Dorgu on the right wing, where he has started once this season.
Dorgu was a surprise starter in the role against Newcastle United on Boxing Day. He made a big mark on the night, scoring the winner with a sumptuous volley.
Apart from his goal, he won nine duels, made five clearances alongside four recoveries.
Amorim shocked many by opting for a 4-2-3-1 system against the Magpies, having previously been adamant about changing his 3-4-2-1 formation at the Red Devils.
The Portuguese reverted to his regular set-up against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United. He did change in the second half at Leeds, but could not secure a win (1-1).
With Amorim’s exit, United are likely to return to the traditional 4-2-3-1 system. Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount are back after injuries, and we anticipate the former to start.
Fernandes has had exceptional fitness levels throughout his career, and the 31-year-old could play for an hour in the number 10 role before being replaced by Mount tomorrow.
Dorgu has a decent track record on the right wing from his time at Lecce. Fletcher could experiment with him in the position again with Mbeumo and Amad away at the Africa Cup of Nations. Matheus Cunha could feature on the left wing with Benjamin Sesko upfront. Joshua Zirkzee could replace Sesko off the bench.
Dorgu, who joined for £25 million from Lecce last winter, was signed to operate as a left wing-back under Amorim, but his role could change going forward. He may not be a regular starter when the squad is at full strength.
The Dane could be seen as a back-up for Luke Shaw at left-back. It appears unlikely that he will operate as a right winger ahead of Mbeumo or Amad in future unless there is some injury concern.
