Gwyneth Paltrow Says She Was 'Fired' from Movie Following Chris Martin 'Conscious Uncoupling' Announcement
Gwyneth Paltrow is looking back at how her split from Chris Martin affected her career.
While appearing on the Tuesday (January 6) episode of Amy Poehler‘s Good Hang podcast, the 53-year-old Oscar-winning actress said that she was “fired” from a movie following her “conscious uncoupling” from the 48-year-old Coldplay frontman in 2014.

“So that was great because I was getting a divorce and then I got fired off,” she sarcastically added. “So it was so awesome.”
Now more than a decade later, Gwyneth said that she understands why some people had such a strong negative reaction to the term “conscious uncoupling.”
“Say you had had a really nasty divorce, or your parents had had a really nasty divorce. And then you hear this idea that like, it doesn’t have to be done this way,” Gwyneth explained. “I think the implicit learning is like, ‘Oh, f–k. Like, they’re saying I did something wrong.’”
While she noted it was never her intention to suggest that concept, the Marty Supreme actress added, “That makes sense to me, like, ‘Oh no, is the inference that I mess someone up.’ Like, that’s not a nice thing to contemplate. So I do understand why it was so personal for people.”
Gwyneth and Chris have remained very close following their divorce as they co-parent their daughter Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19. In an interview from 2020, Gwyneth talked about her co-parenting relationship with Chris .
