Amanda Seyfried Admits She ‘Didn’t Have Any Control’ Over the First Film of Hers Daughter Nina Watched
With a filmography as iconic as Amanda Seyfried’s, it would be hard to decide which one to show your kids. Fortunately for Seyfried, the decision was out of her hands. The Housemaid star, who is mom to daughter Nina, 8, and son Thomas, 5, with husband Thomas Sadoski, revealed that she “didn’t have any control” over the first film of hers her kids watched.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, The Testament of Ann Lee star revealed that her mom showed one of her most famous films to her daughter.
“I didn’t have any control over ‘Mamma Mia!’” Seyfried shared. “My daughter saw it years ago with my mom. … It’s just, it’s the movie. There’s no ifs, ands, or buts. They play ABBA as I’m coming out, and I’m like, ‘I love it!’”
She said the same thing in an interview with PEOPLE in 2024. “My mom showed my daughter [Mamma Mia!], and my daughter is now obsessed,” Seyfried revealed. “And so she’s 7, so she’s in second grade, and all her friends are obsessed. So now they’re starting to recognize me as Sophie, which is a little weird, but how beautiful.”
“I don’t think she quite understands it, but she loves it. She loves it!” Seyfried continued, adding that her daughter also loves the 2018 sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. “She loves both of them, she’s like, ‘Can we listen to Mamma Mia! right now?’ Even yesterday, and I was like, ‘Yeah, which one, one or two?’” Seyfried said.
“And then we listen, and then she’ll be like, ‘No, let’s do ‘Lay All Your Love On Me,’” she continued. “And I’m listening to this music with my daughter, who is now understanding and they’re appreciating it in a way that is ‘trippy.’”
And, yes, Nina has seen Mean Girls too, thanks to someone else showing it to her. “I think I was most excited about ‘Mean Girls,’” Seyfried said in the interview with ET. She explained that her The Testatment of Ann Lee director Mona Fastvold’s daughter Ada, 11, introduced Nina to the film “for the first time.”
“This is exactly right,” Seyfried recalls thinking. “This is artful, this is smart, and maybe a little over her head, but what she’s going to take from it is humor, and she can see me in it, and she can appreciate it because everybody else, and Ada, appreciate it. It was very cool.”
Although she liked it, Seyfried admitted that her daughter is “not yet” obsessing about it. “When she’s like 10, she’s gonna be like, ‘This is badass, Mom,’” Seyfried predicted. “But right now, she’s like, ‘Yeah, it’s really funny.’”
She’ll no doubt love it just like we do one day!
