China, Pakistan Urge Action to Stop Terror Groups Using Afghanistan Soil

China and Pakistan say Afghanistan must take concrete, verifiable steps to prevent terrorist groups from using its territory to threaten regional and global security.

China and Pakistan urged concrete, verifiable steps to prevent militant groups from using Afghanistan territory to launch attacks against other countries, calling terrorism a regional and global threat.

In a joint statement, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar stressed the need to dismantle and eliminate all terrorist organisations operating from Afghanistan.

The statement followed Dar’s visit to Beijing for the seventh round of China–Pakistan foreign ministers’ strategic dialogue, held from January 3 to 5, officials said.

Both sides agreed to maintain close communication and coordination on Afghanistan, underlining shared concerns over cross-border militancy and regional instability.

Afghanistan has remained a focal point of regional security concerns since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, with neighbouring countries warning of militant spillover and weakened counterterrorism controls.

Islamabad has repeatedly accused Afghanistan-based groups, including Pakistani Taliban or TTP factions, of staging attacks inside Pakistan, while Kabul’s current rulers deny allowing any armed group to use Afghanistan soil.

China and Pakistan said they would work with the international community to encourage Afghanistan authorities to adopt inclusive governance, moderate policies, economic development, and good neighbourly relations.

While Beijing maintains pragmatic engagement with the Taliban, analysts say strained Pakistan–Afghanistan ties could complicate regional efforts to curb militancy without broader cooperation and sustained pressure.
