MMO Roundtable: Our 2026 Mets New Year’s Resolutions

The 2025 Mets season was a lot. It didn’t go the way we planned. So, let’s look ahead to 2026. With the New Year upon us, we’re all making our own New Year’s resolutions, and we here at MMO have made some Mets-specific ones. Here’s what we want to see happen this year.

David Melendi

Resolve to remember what sank 2025. Whether by trade or free agency, the Mets need two starters to anchor the rotation. (Asking a lot, I know.) I was on board with Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea headlining a year ago. My confidence in them is gone. I don’t think either will make it through 2026 healthy and/or effective. Nolan McLean has the potential to be an ace, but I’d prefer he start his first full year in the majors as a No. 3.

Mojo Hill

Well, it’s time to embrace the change. Bolster the starting rotation (trade for Tarik Skubal in a dream scenario), sign Kyle Tucker or Cody Bellinger, and continue to alleviate the holes on the roster. With a couple of big adds, this could be a sneaky and balanced club despite looking a lot different.

Michael Mayer

Just build a sustainable contender. The Mets’ farm system is strong right now on the pitching and hitting sides, with the pitching side already shining at the end of the 2025 season. David Stearns and company have decided it’s time to make changes to the core, and now he needs to bring in players to replace them that will help the Mets contend in 2026 and beyond. The combination of the Mets’ impressive farm system and how Stearns decides to finish this offseason will play an essential role in the future of the Mets franchise. Don’t screw it up!

Christian De Block

Ace the rest of the offseason. With how the last few weeks and months have unfolded, pressure is mounting on David Stearns. Trading and letting fan favorites walk has frustrated a majority of the fanbase. That frustration will turn into optimism and excitement if Stearns and Steve Cohen make a couple of headline moves, whether that is in free agency or through the trade market.

Brandyn Pokrass

Add some key pieces that complement the young talent coming soon. Add a pitcher or two through FA or trades, add a big OF bat, a power-focused 1B, and maybe even one more! Contrary to some of the other…voices in the fanbase, I think Stearns can make this a very good offseason. Time to see it play out!

Johnluke Chaparro

Give me something to cheer about. There’s a lot of good that is on the horizon, and I want them to supplement that with talent to build a sustainable winner. Bolster the pitching and give me an offense that just breeds situational hitting. It doesn’t have to be flashy or brash, but something that can win games. I trust these guys at the top to make the right calls!

Mathias Altman-Kurosaki

Get starting pitchers who can pitch more than five innings and relievers who can be trusted in high-leverage situations. I think it would be unfair to put pressure on Nolan McLean to lead the pitching staff in his first full season in the majors. I also think they need insurance if Devin Williams struggles the way he did in 2025. I have faith that the offense can produce, assuming they can add another piece or two, but pitching, above all, has to improve.

Nick Kalantzopoulos

My resolution for the Mets: Get the most out of your own young players. In the end, it’s what every single team in any sport needs to do to win. I’m sick and tired of hearing people say what they think the Mets need to do to win, and the answer being “sign this guy and this guy and this guy.” If the only way to win is to have a payroll twice as big as the next team, then you’re not as skilled an organization as you ought to be. I also hate being the team where you simultaneously want to cut bait on players, and then once they go to a good organization, everyone goes “well, you just KNOW he’s going to kill us.” That’s such a poor reflection on the entire structure. Once that is figured out, you have a team that makes it to the playoffs every year, ala the Dodgers, Yankees, etc. And THEN we can worry about which stars make the difference between champions and contenders. But until we get there, it will just be the rollercoaster year-to-year that we have become accustomed to in the Steve Cohen era.

Matthew Tutrone

Do whatever it takes to win. The band-aid has been ripped off with the old, familiar core of veterans now gone. Now it’s up to David Stearns to build a new core around Lindor, Soto, and the crop of talented young pitchers.

Michelle Ioannou

I want to have fun watching the Mets. Is that too much to ask for? I’m already going into this season upset, losing some of my favorite players. It happened, now we have to commit. Show us that it was all worth it.
