Top six hopes on hold after late Flint winner
COLWYN BAY failed to get the point they needed to secure a top six finish in phase one of the JD Cymru Premier League when they conceded a goal in added time to lose 2-1 at home to Flint Town United in front of a tremendous New Year’s Day crowd of 1,564.
George Hughes had looked to have rescued that vital point with a 77th minute equaliser, but in truth Flint were the better side for much of the game and deserved the three points in their bid to pull clear of the bottom two.
The Seagulls now face the daunting task of going to leaders TNS on January 9th, hoping other results go their way.
The Bay were out of sorts from the start and were fortunate not to go behind when Stephenson fired a great chance over the bar and Josh Jones saw his shot hit the post.
Jones put another chance wide after a poor clearance by Alex Brown, who made a good save from Canavan.
For Bay Jordan Davies hit a shot narrowly over and Louis Robles had a shoit turned for a corner by visiting keeper Jack Flint.
Flint then took the lead on 51 minutes when Josh Jones broke clear of the Bay defence and fired through the legs of advancing keeper Alex Brown.
The Bay improved a little when Uniss Kargbo and Matty Hill were introduced from, the bench and, and after Jamie Cumming had hit the bar with a looping header and the keeper made a good save from Lewis Sirrell, Uniss played a big part in the equaliser, fired home by George Hughes on 77 minutes.
Aaron Williams headed a good chance wide as Bay tried to chase a winner, but Flint missed two great chances before Bay failed to deal with a late corner in added time and Harry Owen stole in to get the matchwinner, to leave Bay sweating on that top six spot.
