To the editor: I-475 widening project addresses growth needs

Multiple opinions are being expressed concerning the widening of I-475. As an engineer at the Ohio Department of Transportation, I was involved in the original construction of this expressway during the 1960s and 1970s. I am now retired. I cannot imagine how Toledo would be moving traffic through, and around, its city limits without this infrastructure. Would its residents prefer moving additional business traffic down Central Avenue, Reynolds Road, Sylvania Avenue, Door Street, Bancroft Street, etc.? These are residential streets, for the most part.
