Patriots Rival Named Trade Fit For Kirk Cousins Ahead Of Next Season
The Miami Dolphins may be considering adding a new quarterback after benching Tua Tagovailoa in the middle of December.
If the Dolphins are looking to bring in a veteran quarterback who can step in and start immediately, Kirk Cousins could be a solid fit for the roster.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks the Dolphins would be a good landing spot for Cousins.
“Regardless of (Mike) McDaniels’ fate, it feels like Miami is out on Tua Tagovailoa, who was benched for (Quin)Ewers for performance reasons,” Knox wrote on Tuesday. “Offloading Tagovailoa’s contract this coming offseason won’t be easy, as it will contain $56.4 million in dead money, but if the Dolphins can do it, they may need a veteran QB to at least push Ewers.
“Cousins could do exactly that, and he could feel good enough about his chances of beating out the Texas product that he’d sign off on a trade to South Beach. It’s also worth noting that McDaniel was on the Washington Commanders’ staff during Cousins’ first two seasons in the NFL.”
Cousins has played in nine games for the Atlanta Falcons this season, amassing 1,541 passing yards and nine touchdowns. He serves as the backup to Michael Penix Jr., but Penix suffered a partially torn ACL in Week 11. If Penix can make a full recovery for next season, Cousins might find himself on the lookout for a new team.
