Prince George Video Sparks Backlash After Man's Christmas Greeting Goes Viral
An awkward moment has gone viral from the royal family’s Christmas walkabout outside the St Mary Magdalene Church on their Norfolk estate, involving Prince George, 12, and a spectator.
A video from TikTok saw Prince William, who is George‘s dad, call over his children to meet a man he called “John.”

The man greeted the kids and said, “George, I’ve got something to say to you. Granny Diana would be ever so proud of you.”
Prince George smiled and said, “Thank you.”
“Granny Diana” of course refers to George‘s late grandmother, Princess Diana, who passed away well before he was born.
The clip has made the rounds on social media with one commenter writing on X, “As a monarchist I think this is appalling behavior. What would possess someone to say something like this?” and another commenting, “This is appropriate for immediate family but not for general public. Its so disrespectful and to be fair she doesn’t know anything about Diana and what would have made her proud.”
Another wrote, “Sorry but this isn’t cool at all. The guy doesn’t know their mother personally. Even though she would undoubtedly love her grandkids it’s inappropriate for anyone to speak for their late grandmother.”
There were also comments of support though, and many pointing out how polite the Prince was in the exchange.
