9 Signs You’ve Found Yourself A Godly Man

Many “desirable” traits in today’s masculine ideal are at odds with goodness, or at least difficult to possess while also having moral virtue.

Read Finding God Every Day by Rebecca Simon here.

However, for women who take the time to seek out a Godly man, they are rewarded with a loving, mature partner who encourages them in their own walk with Jesus. “Where are all the good men?” They’re at church.

Here are some signs you’ve found yourself a Godly man:

He puts God first.

This is an obvious principle to state, but a difficult one to live by. Doing what is right by God isn’t always (or usually) popular, especially today with casual sex and a buffet of options on dating apps. Men especially are pressured to be sexually active in order to be seen as masculine in our culture. Godly men are strong enough to tolerate the uncomfortable moments when they go against the grain because of their faith in Jesus.

2. He spends time in prayer and reading his Bible.

To be a Godly man your actions have to match your words. If you say God is important, but you don’t spend time cultivating your relationship with God, how important can it actually be? Godly men do the everyday work of growing in their faith by attending church, reading their Bible and spending time in prayer.

3. He is the ultimate family man.

Godly men prioritize their families highly. He seeks out wisdom from his older family members. He ensures that his more vulnerable family members (ex: the young and elderly) have their needs met. He cherishes his wife and children (if applicable) or he hopes to raise his own family one day and show his children a portion of the love that Jesus showed to us.

4. You don’t feel jealous of other women.

A Godly man cherishes his woman. He has no interest in toeing the line to see how close he can get to cheating without technically cheating. Godly men run the other way when temptation presents itself. He is happy to have conversations that give you security. And since you can view his history of having integrity, you aren’t worried about the potential for him to prioritize other women over his relationship.

5. He seeks feedback on how to keep the relationship healthy.

Pathways to improving relationships (especially marriage) exist in many more forms through churches and Christian literature than in secular society. While culture at large views working on relationships as feminine, Godly men know it is part of their protective nature. They will seek out marriage advice from the Bible, from discernment and prayer, from their family and from trusted peers and leaders at church.

6. He has a heart for service.

Jesus was a servant leader and he told his followers to do the same. Godly men are generous and seek to serve others, through volunteering, helping their neighbors, church leadership and/or just being someone those around him can count on. One Christian man I knew would drive around in his truck after snowstorms and look for people stuck in the ditch to pull out. Whatever he can do, whatever his gifts are, he uses them to serve others.

7. His morals matter to him.

A Godly man tries his hardest to be a good person, even if he believes no one would notice or he wouldn’t get caught. That’s integrity. When he gives you his word, he keeps it. He seeks to do right by others. He is disciplined in avoiding temptation. He knows what his Christian values are and he prides himself on living them to the best of his ability.

8. He cares about your relationship with God.

How many women can say their boyfriend or husband truly cares about their spiritual journey? Nothing makes a Godly man happier than seeing his woman’s walk with the Lord. He goes to church with you, leads you in prayer and asks you about what God is doing in your life.

9. He forgives.

Christian men are taught not to hold a grudge. They are taught to forgive others as God forgives us. This doesn’t mean being a doormat – wrongdoing can still be addressed. However, the purpose of addressing it is to repair the relationship and move forward, not to gloat because someone else made a mistake at a time that he didn’t.
