Last Sunday, the athlete came 20th in the mass start in Annecy, France (before that he was 5th in the sprint and 18th in the pursuit), after which he went with his friend, the overall leader of the World Cup Johan-Olav Bothn, to celebrate Christmas. The cause of death of the talented biathlete, who will be buried in his native Lillehammer, is currently unknown. Although he had previously complained of heart problems.
“It is extremely sad and unfair that a person has passed away so early and suddenly,” said Bakken's legendary former colleague from the national team , Johannes Tingnes Bø . “He was one of the greatest talents we had in Norwegian biathlon. He always smiled and always had a kind word. When Sievert was around, you could feel it, he created a fantastic positive atmosphere. His main goal in life was to become the best biathlete in the world, and he aspired to it.”
