Amorim is 'really happy' with two Man Utd stars, but they could now leave in 2026
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the club are yet to decide on the future of Casemiro and Harry Maguire.
The duo are in the final year of their contracts and could walk away for free after June 2026.
Amorim was directly questioned on whether the club had reached a decision on extending either deal.
He said (via ManUtd.com): “No, there is no decision. We have a lot to do. We need to understand what is going to happen in the next season because we need to understand if there is European games, what we are doing.
“I’m really happy with them, but I don’t know what is going to happen, so we’ll see what is going to happen until the end of the season, what position we will be, and then we’ll see.”
The Red Devils have the option to extend Casemiro’s contract by 12 months.
The Brazilian is one of the highest earners at the club.
INEOS have worked hard to trim down the wage bill of the squad over the last 12 months.
We do not believe that they would want to offer the same astronomical wages to Casemiro next year, with him turning 34 in two months.
The situation differs slightly with Maguire, as United already triggered his extension clause last year and no longer hold that safety net.
The England international has proven himself a reliable rotation option, but recurring injuries over the past two seasons have raised concerns.
As with Casemiro, United could open talks over a new deal for Maguire, though only on significantly reduced terms.
Quality English centre-backs remain expensive in the transfer market, making Maguire harder to replace than he might appear.
United’s recruitment focus is expected to prioritise midfield reinforcements and wing-back upgrades.
Keeping both Casemiro and Maguire for another year could make sense financially and tactically but only if both are prepared to accept pay cuts.
Amorim is also happy with the experienced pair but his comments suggest that their future may depend on United’s ability to qualify for Europe next season.
