Jermaine Jenas urges £40m striker to snub Tottenham and go for Newcastle instead
Jermaine Jenas has warned an England international against signing for Tottenham Hotspur, pushing him toward Newcastle United instead.
Several outlets continue to suggest that Spurs want to add a top-class number nine to their squad, and they could turn to a player that Thomas Frank knows well.
Tottenham have been mooted as the front-runners to bring Ivan Toney back to the Premier League, 18 months on from the striker’s switch from Brentford to Al-Ahli.
Over recent weeks, a number of sources have suggested Toney is unlikely to leave Al-Ahli in January despite being the subject of enquiries from English clubs, and a former Spurs man has now issued a warning to the 29-year-old.

According to reports, Newcastle are expected to challenge Spurs for Toney’s signature, with Eddie Howe said to be a fan of the former Brentford man.
Jenas has now urged the centre-forward to move to St James’ Park over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The former Spurs midfielder told 10bet (as relayed by Chronicle Live): “If I were Ivan Toney, I would probably be thinking Newcastle. You’ve got Champions League football there. Historically, the No 9s at St James’ Park have always been loved, too.
“As well as that, I think the structure at Newcastle is a little bit better than what Spurs have got currently. You know, he could be walking into a scenario where the manager at Tottenham, Thoma Frank, his ex-manager at Brentford, could be under pressure at some point. At Newcastle, I think all they’re missing is a striker, and he could be that guy.”
Thomas Tuchel may have ended Spurs’ chances of signing Toney in January
It has been reported that the Tottenham target is happy in Saudi Arabia and would only return to the Premier League in January to have a shot at making England’s World Cup squad.
However, it emerged a couple of weeks ago that Thomas Tuchel is not considering Toney for the World Cup squad.
As a result, Tottenham and the striker’s other suitors would likely have to wait at least until next summer to have a chance of signing the 29-year-old.
