Prince William & Kate Middleton Are Quietly Shrinking the Royal Family: 'Less People, Less Drama'

Prince William and Kate Middleton aren’t the King and Queen of England just yet, but they are making plans for when that day arrives.

It’s what a palace source is describing as a “new monarchy” to Us Weekly. The royal couple is expected to “completely modernize” the palace structure. “There will be changes in terms of how The Firm is run, and antiquated rules will change. There will be more freedom,” they added.

William has already shared with the press about what the future looks like during his November 2023 trip to Singapore. “You have to remain focused; if you spread yourself too thin, you just can’t manage it, and you won’t deliver the impact or the change that you really want to happen,” he told the print media about his patronage plans, via Roya Nikkhah, Royal Editor of The Sunday Times on X.

The Prince of Wales will continue to support environmental causes like his pet project, the Earthshot Prize awards, as well as mental health and homelessness. Kate will stay focused on her early childhood education mission. But, they also hope to have a more boring reign by ending the royal scandals that have plagued the palace over the last several decades.

“The idea is: less people, less drama,” the Us Weekly source added. They hope to thin out the royal ranks as much as possible, so there are less headlines to go around. That might be difficult with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s ongoing Jeffrey Epstein controversy. He’s been stripped of his titles and still can’t stay out of the headlines.

William may have his eyes on issuing royal executive orders to strip some of his other family members of their titles. The Royalist Substack believes that the titles of “Beatrice, Eugenie, Harry, Archie, and Lilibet” could all be on the chopping block once he’s king. An insider suggested in October that the Prince of Wales might go one step further with Harry and Meghan Markle. They believe the Sussexes “will also see their dukedoms and HRHs formally revoked by the new king.”

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams agreed with that possible scenario. “William’s style is totally different from Charles’,” he told Us Weekly. “He will undoubtedly reassess the use of palaces and the monarchy’s property portfolio. Cost is always an issue.”

It’s going to be a significant time of change at the palace, but William is signaling that is exactly what is on his royal agenda.
