Man United block loan exit for 'ice-cold' teenage finisher, could break into first-team soon
Manchester United have made a firm decision on the future of one of their biggest academy stars.
According to The Athletic, Man United have no plans to let Chido Obi leave on loan in the winter transfer window.
The 18-year-old made his senior debut under manager Ruben Amorim last campaign.
He played eight times for the first team and was also part of the post-season tour where he bagged a brace.
Obi is a phenomenal talent with “ice cold” finishing.
It has been a challenging 2025-26 season for the teenager who had hoped to become a permanent member of the senior squad.
However, he has been demoted back to the Under-21s due to a lack of European fixtures.
Obi has yet to make the matchday squad under Amorim this term.
Benjamin Sesko is the first-choice striker, with Joshua Zirkzee serving as his back-up.
Matheus Cunha has also led the line in multiple games this campaign, further limiting Obi’s chances of featuring.
Zirkzee is highly tipped for a move to AS Roma in the upcoming winter transfer window.
If he heads for the Old Trafford exit door, Obi could earn occasional promotion to Amorim’s squad.
He has five goals and three assists to his name in 15 games across all competitions this term.
He recently returned after spending a few weeks on the sidelines and will hope to get back to his lethal goal-scoring form soon.
