White Sox Sign Left-Hander Who Made Five Starts For Red Sox In 2025
The Chicago White Sox are adding a former Red Sox pitcher to their staff for the 2026 season.
According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. Chicago and left-hander Sean Newcomb have agreed to a one-year deal worth $4.5 million. The White Sox designated left-hander Ryan Rolison for assignment in a corresponding roster move.
Newcomb signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox in January 2025. He made 11 appearances for Boston in 2025, including five starts, and ended up with an 0-4 record 3.83 ERA with 41 strikeouts over 40 innings of work. He was traded to the Athletics on May 27 for cash considerations.
Newcomb was much more effective in an Athletics uniform in ’25, posting a 2-1 record and 1.75 ERA with 50 strikeouts and two saves across 51 1/3 innings.
Throughout his nine-year career, Newcomb has tallied a 30-30 record, 4.20 ERA, and 529 strikeouts in 523 1/3 innings. Drafted 15th overall by the Angels in 2014, he was traded to Atlanta and debuted in 2017, nearly no-hitting the Dodgers in 2018.
According to The Athletic’s Will Sammon, Newcomb will get the chance to start in Chicago in ’26.
