Patriots’ Stefon Diggs Dislikes This Positive Trait From Drake Maye
Stefon Diggs and Drake Maye have built a seamless rapport on the field, but the New England Patriots teammates differ in personality.
Maye leaned on his veteran wide receiver Sunday night, connecting with Diggs on nine of 10 targets for 138 yards in a 28-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens. The 23-year-old didn’t look flustered when leading a fourth-quarter comeback on the road.
During a post-game interview on Peacock’s “Sunday Night Football Final,” Diggs joked about Maye being too calm.
“Yeah, I don’t like it,” Diggs said playfully when asked if his quarterback is always so calm. “I told him I need some juice, I need some energy because I’m such a positive energy guy. And he likes to stay right there. I got to appreciate him for what he is. He’s being himself.”
Diggs stopped himself from comparing Maye to another passer, possibly a more fiery Patriots icon.
“Drake Maye’s a hell of a quarterback,” Diggs said. “I feel like he approaches this game like a young blank. I don’t want to say his name.”
NBC analyst Rodney Harrison filled in the blank with his former teammate, Tom Brady. Diggs laughed without confirming or denying.
“I don’t want to say his name,” Diggs repeated. “But just as far as how this offense is run and the success that he has and how he stays just right here, I love it, man. I tell him to keep his chin up, and he’s got a lot of good in him.”
