What awaits modern grandmothers for refusing to sit with their grandchildren
The generation of classic grandmothers is leaving, and it seems to be leaving irrevocably. There will be no more fried pies (unless they are delivered by a courier), mushroom picking (unless they are sold in the shopping mall), and strictly allotted time for watching TV (grandmother herself needs to be coddled from Internet addiction).
The continuity of generations will be interrupted, when you could directly communicate with a person of a different mentality and culture. After all, a classic grandmother is, as it were, a creature from another planet. She is strange, incomprehensible and very self-willed. All these grandmother's “reproaches” certainly developed, made her more voluminous and richer as a person.
My grandmother was born before television. I could listen to her stories for hours about “How people lived before.” Interesting? That's not the right word.
A classic grandmother is an incredible type of person. She is like a slave, because any of your desires were satisfied instantly, you didn't even have to say anything, you thought, and she ran to fulfill it. On the other hand, she was a person who possessed unconditional and unshakable authority, because you always knew what line you couldn't cross and, if your grandmother said something, you would have to do it. Most importantly, a classic grandmother gave a unique feeling of unconditional love. You are the best and most beloved simply by the fact of your existence. Just be, nothing more is needed from you.
Unfortunately, they don't make these anymore.
Speaking of modern grandmothers, I mean women over 50, that is, those whose adulthood fell on the mid-80s, and their bright and blooming youth-youth fell on the 90s, which, by the way, are not “bad” for them, but the best and full of opportunities.
The modern grandmother does not sit on a bench by the entrance, but spends her boredom on social networks. The modern grandmother will no longer shout after a vulgarly dressed girl: “Wow, prostitute,” but will dislike her and comment causticly on a photo in a revealing swimsuit.
What about grandchildren?
You can often hear the phrase from modern grandmothers: “I didn't hire you as a nanny.” What does this actually mean?
We, young parents, by inertia think that our mothers should be like our grandmothers. That is, our mother should, like her grandmother, live with one thing – caring for the younger generation. But this scheme no longer works.
Our mothers should be taught throughout their lives that they are free and self-sufficient women, who have the right to happiness and the personal life they prefer. From the pages of magazines, TV screens, radio speakers, and, more recently, smartphone displays.
It's not a matter of whether this narrative is bad or good. We are dealing with a fact that you cannot go against.
Today, women 50+ are, first and foremost, active members of society with a lot ahead of them. Today, medicine and cosmetology allow women 50+ to look 30+ years old.
Sometimes it's not easy to tell a walking toddler from their grandmother or mother. It's not that mothers don't look good, on the contrary, grandmothers have changed dramatically.
What grandchildren and free care for them can we talk about?
Classic grandmothers ended with the USSR. Today, a grandson's visit to his grandmother is formalized as a state visit by the president to another country, meaning that it is necessary to agree on the time and conditions for the child's stay on the grandmother's territory.
Young parents need to forget that grandma owes them something. Nobody owes anyone anything — that’s the motto of our society. Your child is your only concern. Grandma lives her own life. Grandma is just as selfish as you are. Both you and she were raised according to the same patterns.
There is good news too.
Modern grandmothers, who strive to conform to Western models, will live a couple of dozen additional rich lives. Old age, indeed, has shifted in time, but it has not been completely abolished. The time will come, it will definitely come, when it will no longer be possible to live for yourself. Hello, you who are sick. And then the old woman will remember her children and grandchildren, saying, help us, we are not strangers!
At this point, the children and grandchildren will also answer with a straight face: Of course, grandma, we will find you a wonderful hospital and even order you a taxi. We will never mess with you. We did not hire a nanny and we do not owe anyone anything.
