'Game of Thrones' Star Reveals Surprising Role He'd Take in HBO's 'Harry Potter'
For eight seasons, he battled White Walkers and navigated the politics of Westeros as the King in the North. Now, one of the biggest stars from the Game of Thrones series is ready and willing to trade in his sword for a wand. In a strong admission that has left fans of two words debating, Kit Harington (famous for playing Jon Snow) has revealed he is all-in on joining HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series.
However, while most well-known names may pursue a leading role like Sirius Black or Snape, Harington's request was far from what you may expect. A self-professed huge fan of the Harry Potter world, the Game of Thrones star admitted he'd settle for far less to land a role in the upcoming series.
Harington's 'Harry Potter' TV Show Comments
Harington had no problem taking a deep dive into his Harry Potter fandom, and it's led to him voicing Gilderoy Lockhart in the Harry Potter Audible audiobooks. During a conversation with Variety, Harington detailed just how much he loved the book series and explained his desire to join the HBO series.
"I’m a big book nerd. I never really got into the movies so much," Harington said. "I did watch them, but I didn’t come to it through them. I loved the books when I was growing up. I was one of those people who was given the book — I was 11 and Harry was 11. I grew up with them. Then they kind of left my life for a bit as I got older. Then I rediscovered them through the audiobooks with Stephen Fry."
"I’ve gone to bed every evening for the past six or seven years listening to them just on notation, and it’s a kind of sleep aid for me. I know them like the back of my hand. I’m a complete nerd for the books."
Harington's passion for the popular book series-turned-hit movie series is apparent, and he made it very clear that he'd be ready and willing to dive headfirst into a role in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter.
'I'll Be a Background Extra': Kit Harington’s Humble Plea to HBO
While the new HBO Harry Potter series won't be released until 2027, the Game of Thrones star admitted he's willing to put aside all desires of playing a specific role. Instead, Harington would just love to be part of the new series and the Harry Potter world in any way, which he revealed to Variety.
Even if that means being a background extra.
"I’d take on any of them. I’ll be a background extra, I don’t care. I would love to be in that," Harington said when asked what role he'd want to play in Harry Potter.
It's hard not to give the 38-year-old actor a tip of the cap for how passionate he is while addressing his desire to be a part of Harry Potter. While he may not be on the immediate cast list, there's plenty of reason to buy stock in the possibility of a cameo at some point.
After all, both shows are HBO and Warner Bros. properties, and we've seen a recent trend of high-profile names taking smaller-than-expected roles in some bigger reboots. It's anyone's guess at this moment, but here's to hoping Harington finds his opportunity to join the HBO series.
