This is not the first time a body has washed up in the metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona, canal system, though it is not an everyday occurrence.
This is at least the second time this year a dead body has turned up in the canal.
Infamously known is Bryan Patrick Miller, the “Zombie Hunter,” a serial killer from the 1990s who murdered two people and ditched their bodies in the canal. He went decades without being caught until 2015.
The 336-mile canal stretches from Lake Havasu in Western Arizona through Phoenix down to Tucson in Southeast Arizona. It provides crucial water for agriculture and energy to the state from the Colorado River.
Miller received two death sentences for the first-degree murder of Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas. Now, another body has washed up.
Per ABC15:
Officers were called to the area of 35th Ave and Indian School Road just before 10:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a body in the canal, according to Phoenix police.
Police and the Phoenix Fire Department responded to the scene and confirmed the person was dead.
Police say the person’s identity and the cause of death have not been determined.
What led to the person’s death remains under investigation.
For those unfamiliar, 35th Avenue and Indian School Road, in the Maryvale neighborhood, is a majority Hispanic area known for crime and prostitution.
