Reliable insider: ‘Internal meetings’ started at Man Utd for winter transfers after full-blown crisis, ‘decision soon’
Manchester United have already begun urgent internal talks as they scramble to address a glaring weakness that has suddenly deepened into a full-blown crisis.
According to reliable insider Sully Talkz, Man United looking at possible midfield options in January and decision could be made soon.
Internal meetings have already taken place to find solutions after injuries to Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.
Fernandes suffered a worrying hamstring injury in the first half against Aston Villa on Sunday.
He heroically carried on playing until half-time but eventually had to make way for Lisandro Martinez.
Mainoo had been tipped to step in for the suspended Casemiro at Villa Park, only for Amorim to spring a late and unwelcome surprise.
A calf issue ruled the youngster out entirely, with the full severity of the problem still unclear.
Amorim has since confirmed that both Fernandes and Mainoo will miss the Boxing Day showdown with Newcastle United.
United forced to fast-track summer plans
United had already identified Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba as their three priority midfield targets for next summer.
A January move for any of the trio was previously viewed as virtually impossible given the inflated mid-season prices.
Ideally, INEOS wanted to remain patient and avoid paying a premium in the winter market.
That luxury, however, may no longer exist.
With Fernandes and Mainoo sidelined, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte are currently the only recognised midfield options available to Amorim.
Neither of them is suitable for the number eight spot.
While Casemiro has still contributed meaningfully this season, Ugarte’s struggles have raised serious questions about his suitability.
If Fernandes and Mainoo face extended spells on the treatment table, INEOS may be left with little choice but to abandon caution and push aggressively for a marquee midfield signing in January.
