Harry & Meghan’s Charity Hit With a Major Loss Amid Reports They’re ‘Running Out of Money’
More changes are underway for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s foundation. Days after changing their operations, the brand reportedly lost three employees.
On Dec. 19, the couple announced that Archewell Foundation will become Archewell Philanthropies. It will be transitioning to a fiscal sponsor model to streamline its administrative structure and give it greater flexibility, the couple’s spokesperson said in a statement.
The change will broaden the family’s “meaningful reach and maximum impact, grounded in the same values, partnerships, and their commitment to show up and do good,” the spokesperson added.
However, the Daily Mail reported that three staff members had been let go in the midst of the changes. The three staff members were told of their fate a little over a week ago. One of the employees includes Kristen Slevin, the director of programs and operations. The 990 form says she was on a salary of $146,000.
A spokesperson for the couple denied changes to their staffing, telling the Daily Mail, “Currently, the same full team remains in place.”

“This move does mean that some staff redundancies are inevitable, particularly with junior admin roles,” the rep continued.
“We will not be discussing these personnel details further, other than to say that we are honoured to have worked with incredibly talented and caring people who dedicate themselves to helping others.”
The Daily Mail reported that the charity’s contributions went down in 2024, with a reported $5.1 million worth of expenses and donations of $2.1 million.
In July 2025, sources told Page Six that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had let go of several of their staff members. “It’s the same old story – they cycle through staff as quickly as normal people cycle through toilet paper. Milk lasts longer than their employees,” said one royal source. The couple’s $100 million Netflix deal is also supposed to be up this year.
“This isn’t strategy — it’s survival,” one source told celebrity gossiper Rob Shuter. “They’re running out of money, and now they’re running out of people.” Another royal source said that layoffs were inevitable for the former royal family members. “They don’t have the money to keep the team they built,” the source said. “They tried to recreate the royal court — but California doesn’t do crowns on credit.”
