King Charles III probably isn’t going to get an ounce of rest this holiday season after the U.S. Department of Justice began releasing some of the files in the Jeffrey Epstein case. And yes, the ex-Prince Andrew is in there.
It’s a situation that is being described as a “pre-Christmas nightmare” for the monarch by The Daily Beast. And it’s not just Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor who is in there, so is his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
One particular image had many people in an uproar with Andrew, dressed in a tuxedo, sprawled across the laps of five young women. (You can see the image here.) Their faces were blocked, but Epstein’s convicted cohort in the sex-trafficking case, Ghislaine Maxwell, stood smiling over the royal. According to the Scottish Daily Express, the image was taken in the saloon room at Sandringham, which is his brother’s country estate.
This ongoing situation is not just a headache for King Charles, it’s an issue when it comes to his royal legacy. The problem is that Charles doesn’t know what is coming next as Donald Trump’s administration slowly begins to reveal the documents.
The Daily Mail called Andrew’s latest scandal “haunting” and “sordid” because it is “an invasion” of the royal family’s “privacy.” There’s plenty of evidence that Epstein moved in palace circles, thanks to Andrew. The media outlet revealed that the disgraced royal threw a party for Maxwell in December 2000 for her 39th birthday.
In his upcoming book, The Windsor Legacy, Robert Jobson chronicles the aftermath of the birthday celebrations, per the Daily Mail.
“Staff were stunned to discover that the bathrooms were stocked not only with toiletries but poppers, lube, and condoms,” he alleged in the book.
While there still isn’t any evidence of criminal activity by Epstein, but royal expert Andrew Lownie told the media outlet that Andrew still makes everyone at the palace look bad.
“Epstein and Maxwell did not gain proximity to Andrew by accident,” he explained. “Royal households are not casual environments. Access is controlled, invitations are extended deliberately, and boundaries are normally enforced with care. That Epstein was able to move as freely as he did raises uncomfortable questions not only about Andrew’s judgment but about the failure, or unwillingness, of those around him to intervene.”
