‘Green card on steroids’ already has generated serious cash for U.S.
A billion dollars isn’t what it used to be.
But still, a billion here and a billion there eventually adds up.
As is happening with President Donald Trump’s “Gold Card” visa program that allows the wealthy to buy permission for foreign workers to remain in the United States.
The visa costs $1 million in the form of a donation to the U.S. government. The program started accepting applications just days ago.
A report at ZeroHedge explains businesses can purchase the visas for foreign workers.
Trump launched the Gold Card in September with an executive order and also instituted a $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applicants. The H-1B fee exempts current holders and renewals, according to the White House.
Trump first proposed the Gold Card visas in February, floating a $5 million price tag for residency and a path to citizenship.
At that time, the president said, “Wealthy people will be coming into our country.”
His goal was to “reduce our taxes greatly and hopefully bring some great people into our country.”
Payments go directly to the U.S. Treasury.
Just days ago, Trump confirmed that the administration now has sold more than $1.3 billion in the cards.
He called it a “green card on steroids.”
Trump’s plan is that companies can retain graduates from top institutions who otherwise might return to their native countries.
“Now you’re able to buy a card and you’re able to keep people in the country,” Trump said.
“Under the Biden administration, 25 million people came in, and they came from prisons and mental institutions, and they were drug dealers and all sorts of people came in that shouldn’t be here. They came from the jails,” he said.
However, leftist leaders in 20 states have sued over the $100,000 H-1B fee, arguing Trump cannot do that.
The Epoch Times explained Trump’s intention is to have an immigration policy that focuses “on securing top talent and curbing illegal immigration.”
