Man dies after being hit by train near Oakland BART station
OAKLAND — A man was killed Monday morning when he was struck by a BART train on the tracks south of the Fruitvale station, shutting down the station for more than two hours, authorities said.
No information has been released yet about the man killed.
The fatality happened around 6:20 a.m. Monday.
Why the man was on the tracks is under investigation.
BART said the station reopened about 8:28 a.m. and that service on all lines was returning to normal. Prior to that. trains were going through without stopping.
Service on the Green Line, which runs between Daly City and Berryessa/North San Jose, was stopped while police investigated, officials said.
AC Transit provided parallel bus service between the Coliseum and Lake Merritt stations, and BART was alerting riders about other connections while police investigated.
