JOSH FOWLER fired his 16th and 17th goals of the season to shoot down Airdrie and revealed he’s surpassed even his own expectations since his move to Queen’s Park.
Moving back to Scotland and the southside, the striker joined Sean Crighton’s Spiders from Dubai City and has lit up the William Hill Championship.
Admitting his return was “a risk” the 24-year-old revealed he’s passed hios own goal taregt for the first half of the season – and now has his eye on a bigger task.
Speaking to the press pitchside on Saturday he said: “My target was 15 by January so I have my little target now, and now I’m just asking myself can I push on and try and get as many as I can from now on.
“I’m just really enjoying my football right now, enjoying the goals.
“I took a risk in coming back here but I have made sure I have kicked on. I’ve been trusted by the gaffer and all the boys are just working really hard. It’s coming together.
“I just have to try and keep going with goals. Obviously we want to stay in the league and hopefully we can start winning a lot more games cause as you have seen, a lot of games this year where we’ve deserved to win or we have to get something from and it’s just that little bit at the end but [the game on Saturday] can show that if we all can stay together we can get results.”
Fowler’s goals, and a second in as many weeks from Henry Fieldson lifted the Spiders above the Diamonds on goal difference with a game in hand over their hosts.
They now close out the year with a Glasgow derby at The city Stadium with Partick Thistle.
But the Spiders won’t be resting on their laurels, Fowler explained.
“The gaffer has told us, it’s just one win but we are looking forward to next week now.
To be honest I thought it was quite an even first half. I thought we would actually quite good as well I think chance–wise we had some good chances and I thought the game plan that we have worked on this week was working and it’s just about getting the first goal and then once we did we took a bit of confidence we can crack on and get another one and then were on top by the end of it so I mean we’re all buzzing.”
Fowler also paid tribute to pal Seb Drozd who set up both his strikes after returning to the scoresheet midweek against Clyde.
Josh added: “Seb and I are actually like best pals off the pitch.
“I’m with him all the time and the gaffer is always on about that and that’s why he’s put his trust in us and I think you can see over the last couple games by assisting each other and both starting to score goals. Long may it continue.”
