Patriots’ Mike Vrabel Praises Drake Maye’s Performance In 1-Word
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was impressed with the way Drake Maye played on Sunday.
The Patriots went on the road to play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, and entering the game, New England was the underdog. Yet, the Patriots played well, especially quarterback Drake Maye, who threw for over 300 yards for the first time in his career. Maye ended up going 31-of-44 for 380 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. He also rushed for 25 yards.
Following New England’s 28-24 win, Vrabel summed up Maye’s performance as “gritty” as he had plenty of praise for the sophomore quarterback.
“I just thought gritty,” Vrabel said postgame on Sunday. “I mean, he got hit. He got hit. They pressured him, or they got home when they didn’t. He just kept getting up and battling. He didn’t flinch. I think it was important for all of us to have that game, the entire team.”
It was a solid performance from Maye, who bounced back after he struggled the week prior against the Buffalo Bills.
Vrabel believes Maye learned a lot from his performance against the Bills, which led to a great game against the Ravens.
“Hopefully he can learn from those things,” Vrabel added. “A lot of confidence in everybody out there. It was great for him to have success. I’m happy for him, especially executing at the end of the game, pulling it and being able to get the first down and get down.”
With the win, the Patriots clinched a playoff spot, but the focus for New England is to win the AFC East.
