Why one Man United star deserves patience and not panic from fans
Manchester United star Leny Yoro finds himself under intense scrutiny after a difficult run of performances over the past few weeks.
The Red Devils lost 2-1 to Aston Villa, courtesy of two brilliant goals from Morgan Rogers.
Yoro would be the first to admit he could have handled both situations far better.
He made no attempt to get close to the Englishman and allowed him to cut inside and fire a long-range shot to put Villa ahead for the first time.
The 20-year-old should have shepherded him wide and blocked the route towards goal, but hesitated at the crucial moment.
That lapse was followed by another costly error, as Rogers again caught Yoro napping and punished him from a similar angle.
It was not an isolated incident, with Yoro committing several naive mistakes over the course of the campaign.
Earlier this season, a clumsy challenge on Jean-Philippe Mateta inside the box handed the referee an easy penalty decision.
He was also partly at fault for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s winner in the narrow 1–0 defeat to Everton.
United fans must be patient with Yoro
Yoro now needs to reset mentally and rediscover the level that made him one of Europe’s most coveted young defenders.
United supporters must also approach the situation with greater calm and perspective.
Yoro is very young and mistakes are inevitable.
Young players thrive best when senior figures shoulder responsibility and guide the team through difficult spells.
The wider environment is crucial in shaping a player’s development.
It is also important to recognise that Yoro is still adapting to the right centre-back role in a back three.
That position often requires him to defend wide spaces like a full-back, leaving him frequently exposed in one-on-one duels.
Those scenarios have clearly tested him in recent games.
The raw tools remain undeniable. Yoro is tall, physically strong and quicker than his recent performances suggest.
He is a sublime talent with the attributes to become one of the standout centre-backs of his generation.
However, the journey will take time and mistakes are an unavoidable part of that growth.
