Re: Blog: January Transfer Window
AnotherchelmsleybloggerFor me that loss at Bolton last season was a sign that against a goodish opponent and importantly the benefit of a roaring home crowd CD might need different tactics away from home this season. We were never going to drown teams in 70% possession.
I think what this game showed for me was the physical limitations of our squad and why it needed addressing. We couldn't get out because we were missing Laird, Stansfield and Anderson and had a "front three" of Gardner-Hickman, May and Hansson.
It's not like we failed to address speed and power in the squad completely. Osayi-Samuel, Neumann, Gray and Kyogo can shift. But the former two's limitations with the ball combined with a right winger that needs to stay on the touchline has created new problems. There probably is a way to make it work, but I think doing it would once again change our identity and be a temporary fix until the same issues creep up.
I think centre back is a biggie for me in January. Arguably more important than a LB.
I would say a target man 9, a tall DM with power and a RW with pace and end product and LB are the biggies.
