Saudi Arabia Awards King Abdulaziz Medal to Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir
Saudi Arabia awarded its King Abdulaziz Medal to Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir in Riyadh, underscoring strong defence ties and shared security concerns.
Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman has awarded Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir the Kingdom’s highest civilian honour, the King Abdulaziz Medal, during a meeting in Riyadh.
Prince Khalid said the award was conferred on the special directive of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, recognising General Munir’s role in strengthening bilateral ties and expanding defence cooperation.
In a post on X, the Saudi defence minister said the honour acknowledged General Munir’s contributions to deepening friendly relations, joint security efforts and broader strategic cooperation between the two countries.
The award ceremony took place during high-level talks in Riyadh, where both sides discussed the longstanding Saudi-Pakistan partnership, defence collaboration, and regional and international security challenges.
Officials said the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Islamabad and Riyadh to work closely on peace, stability and counterterrorism efforts across the region.
Separately, Pakistani media have highlighted General Asim Munir’s recent warnings over escalating security tensions linked to Afghanistan, particularly cross-border militancy affecting Pakistan’s western regions.
General Munir has stated that around 70 percent of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters are Afghan nationals, stressing that continued militant sanctuaries across the border pose a serious threat to Pakistan’s security and regional stability, while urging Afghan authorities to take decisive action.
