Why Gisele Bündchen Chose an Ultra-Private Wedding With Joaquim Valente

Gisele Bündchen’s second walk down the aisle was an ultra-private wedding that looked very different from her first — and, according to insiders, that was exactly the point.

The supermodel quietly married longtime boyfriend Joaquim Valente at their home in Surfside, Florida, on Dec. 3, and one insider described it as a “small, private non-event,” per People. The wedding took place three years after her 2022 divorce from Tom Brady and less than a year after she and Valente welcomed a baby boy, who’s being raised alongside her older kids Benjamin, 16, and Vivian, 14.

So why keep such a major life moment under the radar? Insiders say it reflects where Bündchen’s priorities are now. “Gisele is tired of all of the attention on her private life, but [she and Valente] are both so happy being together, and being new parents it was what they wanted to do,” a Miami source the outlet. “Gisele just wants to do things her own way. And a small, private non-event was what she wanted.”

Another source said the low-key wedding fits the quieter life she’s built in Miami post-divorce. “Her life is filled with her kids, her loving family and work, but it is more manageable,” the insider shared. “She is happy being married again, happy being a mom and happy in her environment. It is an enviable position.”

The choice to marry now also marks a big shift from where the couple reportedly were just a year ago. In October 2024, a Page Six source claimed that a wedding was “not happening anytime soon” and that Bündchen and Valente planned to “live together for now,” in part because of the major difference in their net worth.

The pair, who both grew up in Brazil, have known each other since 2021, when Bündchen and her children started taking classes at the Valente Brothers jiu-jitsu studio in Miami. She has repeatedly denied ever being unfaithful to Brady, telling The New York Times in March 2024 that cheating rumors were “a lie” and noting that many women are “blamed when they have the courage to leave an unhealthy relationship and are labeled as being unfaithful,” especially in the public eye.

Sources now say marriage was in the plan for Bündchen and Valente — the timing just had to feel right. “Gisele is happy and in love, and getting married was in her plans,” one insider said. “She didn’t want anything over the top or made public so they could enjoy the day, each other and the family… Everything has fallen into place for her, and she is fulfilled.”

Once news of the private ceremony went public, Tom Brady’s cryptic Instagram Story drew its own round of attention. For Bündchen, the ultra-private wedding was the opposite move — a way to celebrate with her kids, her new baby and a small circle at home, even if everyone else only heard about it later.
