Man Utd player ratings vs Villa: Ugarte sinks to 3/10 but one teammate delivers horror show in 2-1 loss
Manchester United suffered a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
United head coach Amorim had to make multiple changes to his squad due to the absence of seven senior players.
Kobbie Mainoo also missed the clash due to a calf problem he suffered in training yesterday.
Unfortunately for the Red Devils, captain Bruno Fernandes suffered a worrying hamstring injury in the first half.
Villa struck first through Morgan Rogers, whose sumptuous finish gave the hosts a deserved breakthrough.
United responded on the stroke of half-time as Matheus Cunha coolly brought the visitors level.
However, another defensive lapse proved costly, allowing Rogers to strike again and restore Villa’s lead.
Amid the adversity, there was a silver lining as Jack Fletcher and Shea Lacey were handed their first-team debuts.
United pushed relentlessly in search of an equaliser but lacked the cutting edge to produce a decisive moment.
Player Ratings
Senne Lammens – 3/10
Made a fine save to deny John McGinn but failed to block two attempts from Rogers.
Leny Yoro – 2/10
Played Rogers onside for the opener before failing to close him down. Fell asleep again for Rogers’ second goal in a dreadful display.
Ayden Heaven – 6/10
The 19-year-old made two solid blocks early in the game to keep Villa at bay.
Luke Shaw – 6/10
Made some crucial interventions but has to develop himself as a leader of defence.
Patrick Dorgu – 7/10
Won the ball high up the pitch to provide the assist for Cunha’s strike. Could easily have had a second assist, but the Brazilian fluffed his effort from six yards.
Diogo Dalot – 6/10
Got forward regularly but was unable to provide the attacking spark that Amad Diallo usually brings.
Manuel Ugarte – 3/10
Sloppy in possession from the outset, surrendering the ball cheaply and nearly costing United. An attempted switch sailed out for a goal kick, summing up a poor display.
Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
Despite suffering a hamstring injury, Fernandes showed resilience to remain on the field until the break.
Mason Mount – 6/10
Mount looked lively and created a chance for Sesko but was terrible from set-pieces.
Matheus Cunha – 7/10
Cunha brought United level with a precise finish but failed to do it again when Dorgu put it on the plate for him.
Benjamin Sesko – 5/10
Fired straight at Martinez after a hopeful ball dropped into his path. Made several runs in behind and hopefully becomes more clinical.
Substitutes
Lisandro Martinez – 7/10
Introduced at the start of the second half in a new midfield role due to Fernandes’ injury. The Argentina international brought assurance and helped with his incisive passes forward.
Joshua Zirkzee – 6/10
Did nothing noticable.
Jack Fletcher – 6/10
A proud moment for the Fletcher family to see the next generation playing for the Red Devils.
Shea Lacey – 6/10
Tested Martinez with his trademark shot.
