AMAI Gala Awards Shine Spotlight on Malawian Excellence
The Association of Malawians in Ireland (AMAI) celebrated outstanding contributions from the Malawian community at the 2025 AMAI Gala Awards, held recently in Dublin.
The annual event recognised achievements in business, arts, sports, charity, and entertainment.
Top honours went to Emillah Omah, named Business/Entrepreneur Woman of the Year, and Sean Patel, Business/Entrepreneur Man of the Year. The Women of Substance organisation received the Charity of the Year award, while Sarah Chilunga took home the Art and Culture accolade.
Sports achievers were also celebrated.
Joshua Gama and Phangano Ndhlovu were recognised as Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.
Young athletes Mike Kayange and Grace Simati received awards as Young Sportspersons of the Year, while chess talents Nathaniel Kashanga and Thumbiko Nyasulu were named Best Young and Adult Chess Players, respectively.
In entertainment, Carol Kalonga was crowned Social Media Personality of the Year, Vida Brown Germano won DJ of the Year, and Ian and Hannah were named Entertainers of the Year.
The AMAI Special Purpose Award went to Starlight Production and Made in Malawi for their contribution to community initiatives.
Young performers also took centre stage through the AMAI Kids Got Talent – The Chanju Memorial Show, with winners including Summer Kapyepye (0–6 years), Blessings Jere (7–12 years), and the Amazing Sisters—Narehee, Arehana, and Greatness (13–18 years).
The evening was highlighted by lively performances from Malawian artists Driemo and Temwa, adding cultural vibrancy to the celebrations.
Henry Mkumbira Phiri, AMAI President, used the event to call on Malawians in Ireland to remain united and support one another.
“Let us stay focused and committed to uplifting our community. Together, we can achieve great things,” he said.
AMAI officials described the gala as a platform to celebrate excellence, inspire future generations, and strengthen unity among Malawians living abroad.
