National Weather Service Details Winter Storm Impacts Across 16 States, 144 MPH Wind and 12 Inches of Snow
During winter 2025, there have been many reports about states being absolutely rocked by intense and brutal winter weather. Many of those reports have warned about dangers from a great deal of snowfall and wind speeds that can be very dangerous for travelers.
While several of those reports have warned about intense weather conditions, many observers don't know what has been going on aside from the predictions. For that reason, a recent National Weather Service report that contained a warning of ongoing winter storms alongside details of how brutal things have already been was fascinating.
The National Weather Service Has Detailed Several Ongoing Winter Weather Warnings in America
On December 18, 2025, The National Weather Service Prediction Center's X page posted about winter storms that have and will be affecting several American states. That post featured a link to a NWS report that summarized storm conditions affecting the following states. Minnesota, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. The report featured lists of ongoing winter weather warnings and details of the brutal storms that have already rocked the country.
The National Weather Service report began by stating that blizzard conditions continue in the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes. That means states like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York could be affected. From there, the report states that blizzard or winter storm warnings are also in effect for the following regions. Southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, east-central Iowa. While the reports contained compelling details about the ongoing and future weather systems in America, the most striking aspect of it is what it revealed about weather effects that have already happened.
The National Weather Service’s Report Revealed Details About 124 MPH/Winds and 12 Inches of Snow
On top of listing ongoing winter weather warnings, the same National Weather Service report also contained details of how brutal some of the weather that has already hit in America has been. For example, the report revealed that between 10 and 12 inches of snow had fallen in parts of Montana due to recent winter storms. While that level of snowfall can cause damage and danger, it pales in comparison to the staggering wind conditions that have taken place.
The NWS report states the staggering fact that 124 MPH winds struck Colorado in the Berthoud Pass and Copper Mountain regions. Other mountainous regions of that state also coped with wind speeds of between 86 and 113 MPH. If that wasn't scary enough, the report also stated that the Smoot area of Wyoming registered wind speeds of 144 MPH. Other states that dealt with high-speed winds, according to the report, include Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
