Despite having a relatively small role, Brandon said his public visibility skyrocketed, which led to intense and frightening online backlash.
During the August 2024 press tour, he shared an Instagram statement urging fans to show compassion.
“I wasn’t damning anybody, but I was just like, ‘Can we focus on the ethos of this whole fucking movie and not be so hateful to anybody?’ I thought it was a nice thing to say, but apparently a lot of people did not feel that way,” he reflected to THR.
He says the hatred from people was instantaneous, with people writing things like, “I hope you die,” “You’re a piece of s–t,” “I hope your career ends,” and more.
Brandon recalls his agent urging him to stay offline. He’d had another client who’d gone through something similar.
“But imagine you’re walking down a hallway and there’s a door to a room full of a hundred thousand people and they’re all saying something about you,” The Drop star said. “You tell me you’re not going to put your ear to the door?”
Brandon recently made a rare red carpet appearance with his girlfriend Courtney Salviolo!
