More Than 13,000 Above-Ground Pools Recalled Over Drowning Hazard
Summer is still months away, but itCf you're the owner of an above-ground pool, you might want to take a look at two new recalls announced by the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC).
On Thursday, the CPSC confirmed that Blue Wave and SereneLife Home have issued recalls on models of their 48-inches and taller above-ground pools due to the same potential drowning hazard. In total, more than 13,000 pools have been recalled.
Why are these pools being recalled?
Both companies are alerting customers because the compression strap that goes around the outside of the pool may be used as a foothold, allowing a child to enter the pool and potentially drown.
"The recalled above-ground pools contain a compression strap (also referred to as a reinforcing belt) that wraps around the pool on the outside of the vertical support poles, and may create a foothold, allowing a child to access the pool and drown," both recall notices say.
"Children can still gain access to the pools using these footholds even if the ladder is removed."
Thus far, no injuries have been reported as a result of this problem.

What to do if you own one of these products
If you own one of the Blue Wave pools, you are asked to contact the company for a repair kit.
"In the interim, consumers should ensure that children cannot access the pool unattended or, alternatively, drain the pool until the repair can be installed," the CPSC notice says.
Meanwhile, consumers are asked to stop using the SereneLife Home pools and reach out to the company for a full refund.
"Consumers will need to provide photographic evidence of destruction or disposal of the product to receive a full refund from SereneLife Home," the CPSC added.
