How Rob Reiner’s Children Are Grappling With Tragedy: ‘This Nightmare Came Out of Nowhere for Them'
Rob Reiner and Michele Singer’s adult children are doing the best that they can, given the tragic circumstances.
The late couple’s son, Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, have had to face the unfathomable this week after their brother Nick, 32, allegedly killed their parents. According to a People report, the siblings are “incredibly strong” and “surrounded with support” during this difficult time.
A family insider shared that it has “been a huge shock to the system” because “this nightmare came out of nowhere for them.” It was Romy who discovered her father’s body on December 14 after he missed a massage therapist appointment at the family’s home. That’s when the horror began to unfold for Romy, Jake, and their older sister, Tracy, 61, from Rob’s first marriage to Penny Marshall.
“Jake and Romy will never be alone as they try to face this,” the insider added, but the siblings’ December 17 statement revealed their unbearable pain.
“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” Romy and Jake wrote. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
They were appreciative of the “outpouring of condolences, kindness and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life.” Naturally, Romy and Jake asked the public to given them the space they deserved to grieve their loved ones.
“We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave,” the statement summed up.
They aren’t mourning alone either. Their father’s close friends, including Billy Crystal and Albert Brooks, are “fiercely protective” of the children, according to People.
Tracy also gave a separate statement to NBC News on December 14, just hours after the sad news about her father was made public. “I came from the greatest family ever,” she said. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”
