Tottenham want to overtake Manchester City in race for ‘outstanding’ young winger

Tottenham Hotspur are making a push to sign a teenager who is impressing in the Championship, but other Premier League clubs are already in the race.

It appears likely that Tottenham Hotspur will sign a new winger in the January transfer window, in a move which will see the club finally replace Heung-min Son.

Spurs have recently been linked with Ruben Vargas, the Sevilla winger who has been racking up goal contributions in La Liga this season.

Most recently, it has been reported that Tottenham are interested in Said El Mala, who is having a strong opening campaign in the German top flight.

Tottenham are pushing to sign Jeremy Monga

According to TeamTalk, the ‘outstanding’ Jeremy Monga is another player to have caught the eye of Spurs, and they have been making moves to secure his signature in recent weeks.

It has been reported that every top Premier League club wants to sign the 16-year-old, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Manchester City were said to be leading the race to sign Monga a couple of months ago, but Tottenham are attempting to beat them to his capture.

The left winger will make his decision early next year, and he also has the option to move abroad, as a number of top European clubs have held conversations with his team.

However, he would have to wait until he turned 18 before leaving his home country, a rule which previously saw Luka Vuskovic unable to immediately join Spurs.

Spurs should remember the young wingers they already possess

Tottenham desperately need a left winger, but a young Championship player with only two goal contributions this season is surely not going to be an immediate first-team starter.

Spurs have Mikey Moore returning to the club after the conclusion of the season and Tynan Thompson looks like a promising prospect in the under-21s team. There are also players such as Yang Min-hyeok and Damola Ajayi who could play on the left wing, despite usually operating on the opposite side of attack.

It would make more sense to Tottenham to sign a left winger who has experience and is guaranteed to start matches. Monga may be showing promise, but there are already teenagers in his position at Spurs who deserve their chance to show what they can do.
