A Short Prayer To Ask God To Surround You With People Who Bring You Closer To Him
Protection isn’t only about safety — it’s about discernment. When you ask God to guard your life, you are asking him to filter what reaches you, to block what would drain you, and to remove anything that masquerades as good but carries harm beneath the surface. Not everything that looks promising is aligned with your purpose. Not every person who enters your life is meant to stay. Discernment is God’s way of keeping your spirit intact.
Sometimes the most powerful form of protection is an unanswered prayer, delayed timing, or a door that refuses to open. It is God stepping in before you even realize you needed rescue. It is him redirecting you away from what would have compromised your peace, your identity, or your future. His “no” is often a shelter. His silence is often a shield.
As you walk into a new year, ask Jesus to refine your inner compass. To heighten your awareness when something feels off. To give you peace that confirms what’s right, and uneasiness that warns you when something isn’t from him. Ask him to help you see beyond charm, opportunity, emotion, or urgency — and into truth.
A Short Prayer
God,
Place a shield around my spirit. Let anything that is not from you lose its power to influence me. Guard my mind from confusion, my heart from false love, and my journey from paths that look good but lead me away from your purpose.
If something is not aligned with your will, let it fall away before it reaches me. Close the doors that would distract me. Quiet the voices that do not speak truth. Expose intentions that are hidden, and give me the clarity to recognize what is masked before it gets close.
Strengthen my discernment so I can tell the difference between opportunity and temptation, between connection and attachment, between what feels right and what is right.
And God, draw me towards what carries your character — your peace, your patience, your honesty, your humility, and the kind of love that reflects your heart. Surround me with people who bring me closer to you, not further away. Keep me covered as I walk forward. Keep me aligned as I grow. Keep me protected from anything that was never meant to root in my story.
Amen.
