Gales Creek Trail Work Party Improves Safety and Ride Quality
NWTA Volunteers Return to Gales Creek Trail in Tillamook State Forest
On December 13, 2025, a dedicated group of 11 volunteers headed into the Tillamook State Forest to tackle much-needed maintenance on the Gales Creek Trail. Working out of the Bell Camp Road area, the crew focused on improving both safety and ride quality along a heavily used section of trail.
Trail Maintenance Work Completed During the Gales Creek Dig Day
Over the course of the day, volunteers completed treadwork and brushing along 1.7 miles of trail and logged out an additional 2.5 miles. More than 20 downed logs were cut and cleared, and several areas with significant tread damage were repaired. In addition to removing fallen trees, the crew cut back vegetation that posed a risk to riders’ hands and knees, opening sightlines and improving trail flow.
Highlights From the Gales Creek Trail Work Party
One of the highlights of the day was the scenery. The views from Bell Camp Road provided a rewarding backdrop to a productive work party. Just as rewarding was the visible improvement to the trail, with smoother tread, clearer corridors, and fewer hazards that could lead to crashes.
Why This Gales Creek Trail Project Matters
This work is critical to keeping Gales Creek Trail safe, enjoyable, and sustainable. By addressing downed trees, repairing damaged tread, and improving visibility, volunteers reduced the potential for unexpected rider dismounts and helped ensure the trail remains accessible to the broader riding community.
Community Support and NWTA Sponsor Appreciation
A big thank you goes out to Cyclepath PDX for supporting the dig day with people, food, and beverages. Their involvement helped keep volunteers fueled and strengthened the sense of community throughout the day.
