Bruce Pearl says Auburn ‘bitch-slapped’ Purdue last year
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ
Auburn has one of its biggest tests of the season so far coming up on Saturday against No. 6 Purdue. But the team’s former head coach still remembers embarrassing Purdue last season, and expects the Boilmakers to remember it the same way.
“We bitch-slapped Purdue last year in Burmingham,” former Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said. “Matt [Painter] couldn’t have been more gracious… he said ‘we needed that.’.. there’s a lot of Purdue kids that came back that went home for Christmas last year pissed off.”
Purdue stands at 10-1 on the season thus far with their only loss coming against No. 4 Iowa State earlier in December.
Auburn, on the other hand, has gotten off to an 8-3 start this season under a new head coach, Steven Pearl.
The Tigers matchup with Purdue will mark the fourth top 10 team Auburn plays against so far this season. Auburn is 0-3 in those games so far after losing to No. 1 Arizona, No. 2 Michigan and No. 8 Houston.
Both teams could use a statement victory on Saturday night.
