Netflix Adding Beloved Sci-Fi Series Produced by Stephen Spielberg
Netflix is preparing to make some major changes to its viewing library when the calendar flips to 2026. The streaming service will remove over 100 movie titles from its catalog starting Jan. 1, while also adding a large number of other movies and television series.
One television program coming to Netflix next month will be Falling Skies, a popular post-apocalyptic science fiction series that aired on TNT from 2011-2015. Created by Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot), Falling Skies was executively produced by the legendary Stephen Spielberg.
When will 'Falling Skies' arrive on Netflix?
Falling Skies is one of several dozen titles being added to Netflix on Jan. 1, 2026. All five seasons will be available.
"Falling Skies stars Noah Wyle as Tom Mason, a former history professor, one of the last human survivors of a devastating alien invasion of Earth, and now second-in-command of the 2nd Massachusetts Militia Regiment, a resistance group fighting back against the alien invaders," What's On Netflix's Kasey Moore writes.
In addition to Wyle (ER, The Pitt), Falling Skies also stars Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy, Jesse Schram, Seychelle Gabriel, Maxim Knight, Peter Shinkoda and others. Mira Sorvino, Robert Sean Leonard, Gloria Reuben, Dale Dye and Ryan Robbins are some of the performers with recurring roles in the series.
What reviews does 'Falling Skies' have?
The winner of "Most Exciting New Series" at the inaugural Critics' Choice Television Awards in 2011, Falling Skies was cable television's biggest launch that same year. It also drew relatively positive reviews from experts in the media.
From a fan perspective, Falling Skies has an average approval rating of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, including 81% ratings for Seasons 1 and 2 and 88% for Season 4. The series also has a 68 rating ("Generally Favorable" on Metacritic and 7.1/10 on IMDB.
