TSA Warns Travelers Not to Wear 1 Clothing Item Amid Record Holiday Travel
The holiday travel season is expected to be the busiest ever seen within the United States, according to data from AAA.
“People are eager to travel this holiday season,” Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group, said in a statement. “That’s leading to record numbers on the roads and in the skies. Our advice is to plan ahead. Book early, allow extra time to reach your destination, and think about travel insurance if you’re flying during winter weather. It’s the best way to protect both your trip and your peace of mind.”
Record Travel Expected This Holiday Season
AAA predicted 122.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the 13-day year-end holiday period beginning December 20 and ending January 1 - a 2.2% increase over 2024 when 119.7 million people traveled.
A record number of travelers are also expected at airports around the country as AAA projects a record 8.03 million travelers, a 2.3% increase compared to last year. The record travel comes despite a 7% increase in prices for domestic flights with the average ticket costing nearly $900.
TSA Sends Warning to Travelers Before Holidays
As the Transportation Security Administration prepares for the busiest season on record, it sent a warning to all travelers to avoid wearing one clothing item.
"The body scanner don't love your sparkles. We don't want to dull your holiday shine, but we don't recommend wearing your sparkly holiday sweater to the airport," the TSA said in a social media post.
As the holiday travel season continues, AAA urged travelers to get insurance for their travels.
"Travel insurance is essential, especially when winter weather and heavy travel demand increases the risk of delays and cancellations," it said. "It helps offset unexpected costs associated with rebooking fees, lost luggage, and trip interruptions. For air travelers, this protection is especially valuable during peak holiday periods when flights are full and alternative options are limited."
